What to Expect from an Aero Test

There are 2 Elements to Our Aero Testing

Watts Faster uses a 2 step process to find the optimal set up from our aero testing:

  1. Computational Fluid Dynamic Bike Fit
  2. Velodrome Aero Testing

Today we will walk through how each one makes you faster.

Watts Faster

Computational Fluid Dynamics

CFD Bike Fit

Where biomechanics meets Formula 1–level aerodynamics.

Our CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Bike Fit combines a precision biomechanics-led fit with F1-style aerodynamic modelling.

Watts Faster partners with www.airo.app to give athletes access to world-class CFD analysis — without the cost and logistics of a wind tunnel.

Build the Position Foundation

Before we chase aero gains, we build a position that is stable, powerful and sustainable.

Your Bike Fit includes:

  • Pre-fit measurements & off-bike assessment

  • On-bike assessment

  • Position foundations:

    • Pelvis control & stability

    • Bar position

    • Cleat position

No guesswork. No forcing extreme shapes. Just solid fundamentals.

CFD Aerodynamic Analysis

Once the fundamental of the position are in place, we take you into the  virtual wind tunnel:

  • Establish your baseline CdA

  • Test virtual position variations using CFD

  • Identify changes with real speed potential

You don’t just feel faster — you will see the numbers behind it.

Why It Works

This process is powerful because it combines:

  • Biomechanics

  • Aerodynamic modelling

  • Real-world performance thinking

The result - Meaningful gains in a time-efficient, cost-effective way.

Velodrome Aero Testing

Where You Get to Feel the speed.

Velodrome aero testing gives you something CFD alone can’t: real-world validation.

We confirm your CdA on the track, then refine the position changes that showed promise in CFD testing. It’s controlled, tt’s precise and you get to feel the difference immediately.

What We Can Test

The velodrome also lets us dial in your equipment:

  • Aerobars

  • Wheels

  • Chainrings

  • Skinsuits

  • Helmets

  • Overshoes

  • Gloves

  • …anything you want to optimise

If it affects drag, we can measure it.

The Outcome

By the end of the session, you’ll have:

  • A position you can ride sustainably

  • A verified, lower CdA

  • Clear data behind every change

On average, our aero testing saves athletes 15–25 watts, depending on race speed and starting position.

One recent rider reduced their CdA from 0.221 to 0.187 over two sessions — a saving of over 30 watts, worth nearly 2 minutes over 25km.

That’s not marginal. That’s race-changing.

In Summary… What Does This Actually Mean for You?

CFD gives us direction.
The velodrome gives us proof.

Together, they remove the guesswork.

  • You’re not chasing internet positions.
  • You’re not copying what a WorldTour rider happens to look like.
  • You’re building your fastest sustainable position — based on biomechanics, maths, and real track data.

Sometimes the gains are subtle, sometimes they’re huge.

But they’re always measurable.

If you’re serious about finding free speed — not just hoping for it — this is how we do it.
